# Notifications

> How Message24 alerts you to new messages, escalations, suggested orders and disconnected channels, and how to choose which ones you get.

Source: https://docs.message24.net/owners/daily/notifications/

Message24 can alert you in four places: the bell in the web app, a desktop notification from your browser, a chime while the dashboard is open, and a push notification on the [mobile app](/owners/daily/mobile-app/). Each person on your team sets their own preferences.

## Notification types

Choose which types you receive in **Settings > Notifications**, under **Push Notifications**. Your choices apply to the business you have selected; if you belong to several businesses, set them for each one.

| Type | When it's sent |
| --- | --- |
| **New Messages** | A customer sends a message in a conversation that is set to **Human** |
| **Escalations** | The AI hands a conversation to your team |
| **Order Suggested** | The AI detects a potential order in a conversation |
| **Channel Disconnected** | A channel loses its connection and needs to be reconnected |
| **Unlinked Posts** | Posts need organizing (linking to products) |

Turn a type on or off with its switch. The same choices control both the bell and push notifications on your phone.

You only receive notifications for channels you have access to. Admins set channel access for each team member; see [Team and roles](/owners/account/team-and-roles/).

:::note
**New Messages** notifications are only sent for conversations set to **Human**. For conversations on **Auto**, the browser alerts described below still let you know a message arrived while you have the dashboard open. See [Who replies](/owners/daily/inbox/#who-replies-auto-ai-and-human).

## The bell

The bell in the top navigation shows how many notifications you haven't read. Select it to open the list.

- Select a notification to go to the conversation, the order (for **Order Suggested**) or **Settings > Channels** (for **Channel Disconnected**). Opening it marks it as read.
- Select **Mark all read** to clear the count.
- Filter by **Messages**, **Escalations**, **Orders**, **Unlinked** or **Disconnected**, or search by contact name.
- Notifications for the same conversation are grouped together. Use the group toggle to show them one by one.

When a new notification arrives while you are using Message24, a short pop-up appears in the bottom corner. Select it to open the notification.

## Browser notifications and sound

While you have Message24 open in a browser tab, it also alerts you when a customer message arrives in a conversation set to **Auto** or **Human**:

- **Message Sound** plays a chime, whether or not the tab is in front.
- **Browser Notifications** show a desktop notification when the tab is in the background. It stays on screen until you dismiss it, and selecting it opens the conversation. The tab title also shows how many messages arrived while you were away.

Set both up in **Settings > Notifications**:

1. Under **Browser Notifications**, select **Enable Browser Notifications** and allow notifications when your browser asks. Message24 also asks the first time you open the dashboard, and the bell shows an **Enable** prompt until you decide.
2. Select **Send a test notification** to check that notifications actually appear. Focus modes and do-not-disturb settings on your computer can hide them.
3. Under **Message Sound**, use the switch to turn the chime on or off, and **Play the sound** to test it.

These two settings are saved in this browser only. Set them again on each computer you use.

:::caution
If you blocked notifications, your browser won't ask again. Select the lock icon in the address bar and allow notifications for this site. Desktop notifications are not available in Chrome on Android; use the [mobile app](/owners/daily/mobile-app/) instead.
:::

:::tip
Browser alerts only work while a Message24 tab is open. To be alerted when your computer is closed, install the mobile app and turn on the notification types you need.
